Friday Finds: Westie Wearables, Cool Coolers & Hot Camping Tips

Hey there, Happy Friday!

I’ve rounded up some goodies as we head into the weekend and wanted to try out my “Friday Finds” idea. I love a good product recommendation and thought you might, too. 🙂

It’s been getting cooler, and the first autumn breezes always bring me thoughts of cozy clothing (and an excuse to add to my cold-weather wardrobe.)

I’ve been eyeing these Westie socks for a while. The company that makes them, Boondoggle Goods, has a whole line of van socks – including plaid patterns that match VW van upholstery from the 70s!

VW buses are turning up everywhere – I even saw one pictured on the wall of a Gap dressing room last week! It’s a good time to seize the opportunity to stock up on “Westie wear.”

This cool three-quarter sleeve T-shirt is perfect for this time of year.

And this.

Speaking of cool, have you seen Igloo’s new vintage line?

These retro-styled coolers hold up to 85 cans – 85 cans!! – and come with a bottle opener on the outside. Cute as a Yeti but without the Yeti pricetag.

Rich and I have a vintage cooler from the 60s and while it’s the real deal, rust spots and all, it doesn’t keep cool the way these new ones do.

Consider the Coleman steel-belted “Keeps ice for up to four days” cooler, another cutie pie cooler.

I know … I was doubtful about that claim, too. And then I read the reviews – an almost perfect rating with over 5,000 reviews, including one guy who said his ice lasted seven days.

One last cooler to mention because it’s shaped like a VW Bus!

This one is part of Igloo’s “CoolLaborations” line and is officially licensed by Volkswagen. These coolers are the smaller, Playmate size.

You can see the whole collection on Igloo’s website.

Fall is our favorite time of year to camp and a reader tipped me off to this website that is a good resource for finding new campgrounds, especially those that aren’t listed on

I have some more tips in my post about county campgrounds. Who knew?

Don’t forget that on Saturday, Sept. 25, you can get free admission to National Parks.

One last thing to mention before the weekend gets underway.

I discovered an amazing flameless lighter that can fire up your stove, candle, or campfire with the flip of a switch.

This slick little device is rechargeable by USB and might just turn out to be my best camping buy of the year.

I did a little video on Instagram because you really need to see it to believe it!
